Barn Tour
Recently, we had the good fortune to spend a wintery morning visiting a couple of barns built by AB Cook in the early 1900s. The red barn was the barn he used for developing bulls. Each window represents one stall (two bulls) so the barn had a capacity for developing 96 bulls. Two bulls were tied up in each “stall”. The center of the barn opened up on both sides to bring the hay wagon through. The hay loft, itself, was of unbelievable size. When ready to market, the bulls were led by hand, approximately 10 miles into White Sulphur Springs, MT to load on the train to Chicago. The other barn was the work horse barn. It had approximately 20 individual stalls. All of the lumber used in building both barns was local material, and all of the door hinges, latches, etc were hand forged locally. Thanks to Ed and Bev Fryer for taking the time to show us this magnificent part of Hereford history.
